Institute beat Belfast Celtic 5-1 today as we start to ramp things up in preparation for the new season. Institute went 2-0 up but Belfast Celtic got one back before half time and were still well in the game at 2-1.
However, Stute dominated the second half and although Belfast Celtic continued to press, Peter Doherty, Conor Quigley, and Alonzo Clarke were commanding at the back. Eventually Stute’s hard work began to tell and goals by Ahu Obhakhan, Alex Pomeroy and Cameron Saul meant that Stute ended the game as worthy winners.
Excellent performances by team captain Conor Burke and Aiden McCauley added to the positive result with the only downsides being injuries to Shaun Leppard and Dylan Sheerin.
A big thanks to Belfast Celtic for making the journey from Belfast. Their first half performance suggests that they are a better team than today’s scoreline suggests. We wish them all the best for what is sure to be a difficult and unpredictable season for everyone.
Our next fixture will be against Strabane Athletic in the Quarter Final of the North-West Senior Cup. That fixture will take place on the 29th September and will have a 7:45pm kick-off.
